Why Choose JSAD

見出しH2

We follow the Japanese national curriculum (Course of Study) to help students build strong academic skills.

With teachers primarily dispatched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), we aim to foster the ability to succeed globally through personalized learning using ICT, which is a hallmark of Japan’s Reiwa-era education, and through collaborative learning that includes Emirati students—a unique feature of our school.

By learning and expressing themselves in their mother tongue, Japanese, students strengthen their language skills and build a strong academic foundation.

We follow the Japanese curriculum based on the Course of Study prescribed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

☆ Learning is conducted primarily in Japanese, using Japanese textbooks.

☆ When families return to Japan after their overseas assignment, students can smoothly transfer or advance to schools in Japan with confidence.

☆ We implement “personalized learning” and “collaborative learning” using one-to-one devices.

☆ Our teachers—including those dispatched by MEXT, locally recruited educators, and those sent by the Japan–UAE Youth Exchange and Development Support Association—have experience teaching in schools across Japan and at other Japanese schools overseas. They provide attentive and individualized instruction, made possible by our small class sizes.

We Learn Together with Emirati Students

☆ Emirati students also study in Japanese. They learn and interact directly through conversations conducted in Japanese.

☆ Through interaction with Emirati students, children are exposed to the local culture and customs.

☆ Students can engage in cultural exchange—learning about local life from Emirati peers and sharing information about life in Japan.

☆ This environment nurtures diverse perspectives and ways of thinking.

☆ During field trips or guest lectures, when local instructors give explanations in English, Emirati students help by translating and explaining the content in Japanese for their Japanese peers.

We Offer Unique Learning Experiences Not Available in Japan

☆ In addition to regular “Foreign Language (English)” classes, we offer “English Conversation” (2 hours per week) and “Arabic” classes (2 hours per week in elementary, 1 hour per week in junior high school).

☆ Local understanding education includes:

 - Desert activities such as sandboarding and fire-making

 - National Day events, where students learn about and experience Abu Dhabi's culture

 - Abu Dhabi Festival, where students share Japanese culture with local students, kindergartners, and parents through traditional fair games and music

 - Exchange programs with local schools, where students experience UAE culture and introduce Japanese culture and classes to local students

☆ In connection with their academic subjects, students also participate in local field-based learning activities such as visits to libraries, fire stations, water treatment plants, factories, shopping centers, and environmental sites.

☆ Science and life studies are adapted to the local climate and natural environment.

☆ We host a sports festival in collaboration with the Japanese Association.

The Importance of Learning in One’s Native Language

We believe that receiving a Japanese-style education in one’s native language during the formative years of elementary and junior high school is essential for developing both Japanese language proficiency and a strong sense of self grounded in Japanese values.

This foundation supports students in expressing their thoughts and emotions accurately not only upon returning to Japan but throughout their lives.

Our school follows the Japanese Course of Study, providing the same level of education as schools in Japan—even though we are located overseas, where acquiring Japanese language skills and a Japanese-style education can be more challenging.

Except for foreign language classes, all subjects are taught in Japanese. This enables students to go beyond the level of everyday conversation ("social language") and acquire the academic Japanese ("academic language") necessary for subject-based learning.

As a result, students can continue their studies in Japan seamlessly upon return, with a solid understanding of Japanese-taught lessons.

We also believe that learning foreign languages and overseas cultures with a firm grasp of the Japanese language and culture fosters a deeper understanding and respect for other languages and cultures.

Located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, our school actively incorporates local understanding education, including exchange programs with local schools.

In addition, we offer English conversation classes taught by native speakers, as well as Arabic language instruction, allowing students to learn foreign languages after first mastering their mother tongue.

Through this approach, we aim to nurture globally minded Japanese students who will lead the next generation.

Supporting Students Beyond Graduation — A Solid Foundation for the "Spring of 15"

At the Japanese School Abu Dhabi, we provide education based on the Japanese Course of Study, offering personalized instruction in small class settings. In addition to establishing strong foundational academic skills, we emphasize English and ICT education to foster global competence.

In the junior high division in particular, we prepare students for the important “Spring of 15” — the transition after graduation — by using planner-based learning, helping them develop the ability to independently plan their studies. We also conduct academic proficiency tests twice a year, enabling students to assess their readiness for the next stage and to set clear goals and make improvements in their learning.

Furthermore, the EIKEN English proficiency test is held twice annually, helping students gain confidence in their future academic pathways through official certification.
